This is a scam. Same as above new computer downloading new software. Just goes to show you can't trust anyone and should never let anyone take remote access to your computer.

I'm the same as other comments - new computer and new office 365. My error code MSO34017-4 and to ring 1300 163 851. I let him remotely hook up and he had to check with his supervisor. They actually rang me back and yes he ran the ping test and explained about all these Trojans I had and the only way to make my computer safe was to pay them money to fix it. I said no, he was very persistent but I ended up just hanging up.
If it doesn't feel right it most likely is not.

This is a number used by Indian scammers. When you are trying to install Microsoft Office, a pop up message appears telling you that Microsoft has stopped installation and to ring 1300136851. The scammer uses remote software to perform a ping test while claiming to screen your computer for viruses. He then asks for $US149 to get rid of malicious software and install Office. I ended up with a screaming match with the Indian scammer, who claimed that I knew nothing and that he was a Microsoft technician.

I purchase a copy of Office from a MS reseller. Using the code supplied, I tried to download Office. A message popped up saying my installation had been stopped by Microsoft Code DPX32T and I should ring 1300136851. I rang that number and spoke to an Indian scammer who undertook a ping test which he claimed was cleaning my network of malicious software. He then asked for $US149 to clean my system and install Office.

I refused and we ended up in a screaming match, with the scammer telling me that he was a Microsoft technician and that I knew nothing.

Next day, I found that Office had been installed.

Scam! Purchased new computer which had a microsoft card for office set up with online address. Advised to call number after scratch code deemed invalid. Requested $600 after most likely gaining full access to computer. How can they put this kind of thing with a legitimate product purchase? Currently doing full factory reset.
